An introduction to wall mounted speakers

If you’ve had a look at our speaker range already, you’ll notice that we have a large range of wall mounted speakers available. There are three main categories; In Wall, On Wall and Invisible speakers.

In Wall Speakers

In wall speakers are a great option for the space conscious as the bulk of your speaker is hidden away in your wall, with only an unobtrusive speaker grille visible. Generally, we find that these are the best compromise. You get great sound with an unobtrusive design.

Pros:

  • The bulk of the speaker is hidden in the wall, so you don’t lose any space in your room.
  • Easy to install
  • Although the sound quality is not always comparable to cabinet speakers, the sound is not significantly compromised

Cons:

  • The grille is visible, so might not fit with your décor.
  • You must ensure that your wall is deep enough to install your speaker.
  • Sound can travel into the room behind your speaker.

In Wall Speakers Our Top Pick: Nonitor Audio WT380-IDC

WT380-IDC Grille

Our top in-wall speaker is the WT380-IDC, perfect for home cinema rooms. £350 Inc VAT.

On Wall Speakers

If your walls aren’t deep enough to accommodate in-wall speakers, on wall speakers may still be an option for you. We don’t offer many in this range, but we do find that our on wall picture speakers are very popular. The Monitor Audio SoundFrame range are made as on wall and in wall speakers. Instead of attempting to hide your speakers, SoundFrames make a feature of them. You can choose from a range of stock images or supply your own if you’d prefer.

 Pros:

  • No need to worry about the depth of your walls or construction type.
  • Can be an attractive addition to your room, choose an image that suits your décor.
  • Although the sound quality is not always comparable to cabinet speakers, the sound is not significantly compromised
  • Installation is quick and easy
  • Can take with you when you leave

Cons:

  • Careful placement is required to ensure that the speakers aren’t knocked and damaged.

Our Top Pick: Monitor Audio SoundFrame SF2Monitor Audio Soundframe 2 in white with green grille

Invisible Speakers

If your priority is the aesthetic of your room and you don’t want to see any sign of speakers, then invisible speakers are for you. Also known as plaster-in speakers, these are hidden in the wall and are completely concealed by a skim layer of plaster which can then be painted or papered over.

Pros:

  • The speakers are completely hidden so do not influence your décor.
  • Don’t take any space within the room.

Cons:

  • You must ensure that your wall is deep enough to install your speaker.
  • Sound can travel into the room behind your speaker.
  • Ideally, they should be installed by someone with previous experience of installing concealed speakers.
  • Sound can appear muffled if not installed correctly.

Our Top Pick: Amina AIW750i-NAmina Installation

Our top invisible speaker is the AIW750i-N from Amina, a high quality speaker completely concealed. £1956 Inc VAT.
